Hair and makeup at home in Lisbon

One senior English-speaking artist comes to where you are staying with a full kit. No salon to find, no second language to negotiate, no journey home afterwards with a finished blow-dry.

What at home means here

At home means wherever you are staying. For a resident of Lisbon that is usually a flat in Campo de Ourique, Estrela or Alvalade. For a visitor it is more often a rented apartment in Chiado, a short let near Avenida da Liberdade, a hotel room in the Baixa or a villa above the coast at Cascais. All of them work the same way, and none of them needs anything unusual.

The appointment happens in the room you already have. The artist arrives on foot with a case, sets up in a few minutes near a window or a lamp, works, packs down and leaves the room as she found it. Nothing is fixed to a wall, nothing is wheeled through a lobby, and no furniture has to be moved out of the way beyond pulling a chair away from a table.

This is a different thing from a salon appointment done badly at your address. It is a service designed around the room: the kit, the lighting and the sequence of the work all assume that the mirror is small, the light is warm and there is no basin. If you want a hotel room specifically, that page goes into the concierge and timing side in more detail: hair and makeup at your Lisbon hotel.

What arrives with the artist

A full professional kit comes to you. That means hot tools and a dryer, brushes and combs, pins, grips and setting products for hair, and a working makeup kit with primers, complexion products across a range of skin tones, eye and lip colour, and setting spray. Brushes are cleaned between appointments and disposables are used where disposables belong.

The artist also brings her own light. This matters more than anything else on the list. A hotel room lit for the evening, or a Lisbon flat with one south-facing window and heavy shutters, is not a place you can judge foundation by eye. A portable mirror light removes the guesswork, and it is the difference between makeup that looks correct in the room and makeup that also looks correct outside it and in photographs.

What does not come is a basin. Hair is worked dry or from a wash you have done yourself, which is the standard way on-location hair works everywhere. Colour and wet cutting are salon procedures and are not offered at your accommodation, for the plain reason that they cannot be done properly without plumbing.

What the room needs

A plug

One working socket within reach of a chair. Portuguese sockets are the standard European two-pin type.

An upright chair

A dining or desk chair rather than an armchair or a bed. Height and a straight back are what matter.

A window or a lamp

Daylight is ideal and not required. A metre of clear floor beside it is enough to work in.

That is the whole list. A table or dressing surface helps and is not necessary. If two or three of you are getting ready in the same room, say so when you enquire, because at that point the size of the room becomes the real constraint rather than the schedule.

How long each service takes

These are planning figures, not promises. Hair length, density and the style you want all move them. We confirm a realistic time in writing before the appointment.

Blow-dry
About 45 minutes

Longer on very long or very thick hair.

Styling with hot tools
About 60 minutes

Waves, curls or a smooth finish, set to hold.

Updo or chignon
60 to 90 minutes

Depends on the length, the density and how much structure the shape needs.

Makeup
About 45 minutes

A little longer for a full bridal or photographic face.

Hair and makeup together
90 minutes to 2 hours

One person, one artist, hair first and makeup second.

A group of three
Half a morning

One artist works through the group in sequence, so the timeline is agreed in advance.

The order never changes. Hair goes first and makeup second, so that hot tools and hairspray never come near a finished face. If you only want one of the two, say which: hair and makeup are booked separately as well as together.

Travelling to you across Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra

Central Lisbon is straightforward. Chiado, Baixa, Príncipe Real, Avenida da Liberdade, Alfama, Estrela and Campo de Ourique are all a short journey from one another, and the arrival time is rarely the thing that goes wrong. Belém and Parque das Nações sit further out but remain ordinary appointments.

Cascais and Estoril are roughly 30 to 40 minutes from central Lisbon on a normal day along the A5 or the coast road, and slower on a summer weekend afternoon. Sintra is around 45 minutes, with the qualification that the road up the hill into the historic centre carries a full day of tourist traffic from late morning. For an early Sintra appointment that is a non-issue. For a mid-morning one it is the main planning constraint, and it is why we always ask for the address before we agree a time.

Tell us where you are when you enquire and we will confirm the travel time and any supplement before you commit to anything. Nothing about the location is left as a surprise on the invoice.

Booking, without paying first

Send the date, the hour you need to be ready, the address and whether you want hair, makeup or both. We reply within 24 hours with availability, a realistic duration and a price. No card is taken to enquire and no deposit is held while you decide.

Everything is confirmed in writing before the day, including the arrival time and what the room needs. If we cannot do what you have asked for, at the standard you would want, we say so rather than taking the booking. The questions page covers the rest of the practical detail.

At Home in Lisbon

Common questions

Do you really come to my home in Lisbon?

Yes. Your flat, a rented apartment, a short let, a hotel room or a villa. The appointment happens where you are staying and there is no salon visit at any point.

What do I need to have ready?

A plug, an upright chair and a little space near a window or a lamp. Clean, dry hair helps if you want a blow-dry to hold, but say so when you book and we will tell you exactly how to arrive.

Do you cut or colour hair at home?

No. Colour and cuts that need a basin are salon procedures and we do not do them at your accommodation. Styling, blow-dries, updos and bridal hair are all done on location.

How far in advance should I book?

A few days is usually enough for a single appointment, and same-day requests are sometimes possible when the diary allows. Wedding mornings and groups should be booked as early as you can.

Do you come to Cascais and Sintra?

Yes. Cascais and Estoril are about 30 to 40 minutes from central Lisbon and Sintra about 45. Tell us the address when you enquire and we confirm the travel time and any supplement before you book.

Can several of us get ready together?

Yes. One senior artist works through the group in sequence on a timeline agreed beforehand, so tell us the group size when you enquire and we will say honestly whether the hour you want is realistic.

Do you speak English?

Yes. The enquiry, the consultation and the appointment itself all happen in English, which is the main reason most people find this page.

Do I pay to book?

No. You send the request, we reply within 24 hours with availability and a price, and you decide from there.

Tell us where you are staying

The date, the hour you need to be ready and the address. We reply within 24 hours and no payment is taken to book.
